Player Evaluations: England Qualify for the Next World Cup

The national team earned their place at the next World Cup with a decisive triumph over the Baltic side on Tuesday evening.

The Starting Lineup

  • Jordan Pickford – Made a couple of excellent saves in the latter period to preserve his remarkable clean sheet record. That's nine consecutive in a row. 6.5
  • The full-back – Has taken to international football seamlessly. More challenging tests lie ahead, of course, but a positive start to his England career. 7
  • Manchester City's centre-back – A pair of fixtures in less than a week will do the City defender a great benefit. Still one of the first names on the team-sheet, fitness permitting. 7
  • The centre-back – Chosen ahead of his competitor and was flawless. Executed an excellent last-ditch recovery tackle in the closing period to boot. 7
  • Myles Lewis-Skelly – Appeared a little not at his best at times, understandable given his scarce minutes at Arsenal. An interesting few months ahead. 6
  • Newcastle's star – Looks essential in this England team at the moment. Seems suited to this level and has struck up an excellent partnership with Rice. 7
  • Declan Rice – Thriving in his advanced midfield role. The mainstay of England's midfield is displaying his creative abilities now. Developing into a true all-round midfielder. 7
  • Morgan Rogers – Not as impactful as he has been in England's victories over Serbia and Wales. The answer will come next month who is the leading candidate of the number 10 shirt. 6
  • Arsenal's star – Provided an assist to his excellent goal against Wales last Thursday. Will be crucial to England's prospects next summer. 7.5
  • The captain – Playing brilliantly. Boosted his tally for the season to 20 strikes. Has scored 76 occasions for his country. Can he reach 100? 8
  • Newcastle's attacker – Sharp finish to get the ball rolling for England here in Riga. Has acquitted himself well during this break. 7.5

The Bench Players

  • The experienced midfielder (for Rice 60) – Maintained the tempo in midfield. 6
  • Eberechi Eze (for Rogers 60) – Well-executed goal and a menace. 7
  • The winger (for Saka 60) – Faces competition on his hands to make the squad when the squad is full. 6
  • The defender (for Stones 71) – Predictably, dealt with everything in the air. 6
  • The forward (for Gordon 71) – One pacy run down the left stood out. 6

With qualification secured, the team can now prepare for the upcoming tournament with optimism.
