Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial World Series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I want up in that moment other than him with his October magic," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
