Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
