A senior administration official has unintentionally revealed information regarding plans to send an elite army unit to Portland, representing the latest in a string of intelligence disclosures linked with the current administration.

Encrypted Communications Uncover Deployment Discussions

Anthony Salisbury, a top aide to prominent White House strategist Stephen Miller, was observed using the Signal application in a public place to talk about a proposal to deploy the military's 82nd airborne division to Portland, the Democratic-run Oregon city which has been repeatedly castigated by former president as described as “war-ravaged.”

Screenshots of Salisbury’s encrypted communications were obtained by a publication, which reported they were transmitted while the staffer was “in plain sight of others” in Minnesota.

“Between you and I, I think the defense secretary just wants the top cover from the boss if anything goes sideways with the troops there,” a communication stated.

Defense Secretary Seeks Presidential Approval

In the messages, transmitted last weekend, Salisbury corresponded with Patrick Weaver, a senior adviser to the Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, and additional senior federal officials.

Weaver wrote that Hegseth desired the president to explicitly order him to send troops to Portland.

He added that Hegseth would rather to send in the state militia due to possible backlash over using the army.
